As an absolutely tragic 2016 in music comes to an end, and no sooner still, we can now look forward to 2017 and all the possibilities of new releases from much-loved artists and discoveries of even more new artists. There is a long list of soon-to-be released albums and the potential of long awaited projects to come in 2017.
Here are a few to keep your eye on, and why:
Sampha – Process (Released February 3rd, 2017):
I’ve only just recently gotten into Sampha, so his new album will be almost of an introduction to the real him. A couple of tracks released over the past few years showcase his smooth, soulful piano driven electronica accompanied by lush clean vocal stylings. If ‘Blood On Me’ is anything to go by, this could well be my album of the year. Make sure to check this out!
Fractures – Still Here (Released February 10th, 2017):
Another artist I’m just starting to enjoy alot more, the debut album from Australian artist Fractures is another release that could well uncover a superstar. While Fractures have released a few songs and an EP over the past few years, this will be the first full length from this up and comer, and I am certainly one with high hopes.
SOHN – Rennen (Released January 13th, 2017):
After the huge success of Tremors, SOHN returns with his second full length release. Already releasing two tracks from the album – Conrad, and the title track Rennen – SOHN is showcasing more piano then previously seen before. Still with that same soft, smooth electronica that was at the forefront of his debut, this will hopefully be another great addition to an impressive catalogue.
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard – Flying Microtonal Bananas (Released February 24th, 2017)
After the craziness that was 2016’s Nonagon Infinity, King Giz are already back – with plans to drop four albums in 2017. Whether or not the world is ready for four albums is another story, but Flying Microtonal Bananas will mark the first of said albums due to drop. Already releasing two tracks off the album, the Aussie lads are digging deeper into that 70s psychedelic rock that drew many to them over the years. You have been warned!
Other artist due to drop a new album:
John Mayer – The Search For Everything.
Bonobo – Migration (Due January 13th, 2017)
The National – Currently Untitled
Chrome Sparks – Currently Untitled
Incubus – Currently Untitled
Mutemath – Currently Untitled
Artists I’m hoping release new music:
Queens of the Stone Age
Jose Gonzalez
A Perfect Circle
Royal Blood
Sigur Ros
Tobias Jesso Jr.
Asgeir
Oh… Then there’s these guys!
Ha!
